Get Concussion Smart Today!

After months of development, the Coaching Association of Canada is excited to offer its NCCP partners the first glimpse of the new Concussion Awareness section on coach.ca. This will be launched to all coaches through the Coaching Association of Canada’s April Coaching e-news.

Developed as part of the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Active and Safe initiative, this series of resources is designed to help reduce the incidence of brain injuries in team sports and improve decision-making about when it is safe to return to play after a head injury through the following activities:

Making Head Way in Sport – Designed to help coaches gain the knowledge and skills required to ensure the safety of their athletes, this NCCP multi-sport module covers: what to do to prevent concussions, how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion, what to do when you suspect an athlete has a concussion, and how to ensure athletes return to play safely.

To get started, coaches will need their CC#. Once completed, this activity will appear on a coach’s transcript as professional development. Spread the word, as this online training is FREE for a limited time only!

Concussion IQ – Take this short quiz to find out what you know, and don’t know, about concussions.

What Happens During a Concussion? Watch what happens to the brain during various types of impact to the body.

Concussion Stories – Real coaches and real athletes tell real stories of managing concussions. Find out how they learned that no one is invincible from brain injuries.
