Competition Coach Specialist Training Cohort
Competition Coach Specialist – English & Western candidates!
Meeting weekly for 2 months, Competition Coach Specialists can now work through all of the training recommended to prepare for EC NCCP certification. Working together in a virtual environment, candidates will work together with experienced Coach Developers.
Candidates will be prepared to apply for certification at the end of the cohort.
To attend the training cohort, candidates must have access to a computer or laptop (phones and tablets are not recommended) with high-speed internet, video camera, microphone, Microsoft Word or document editor and a gmail address for accessing google classroom.
Evaluation Requirements
Any coach is eligible to attend the training cohort, applicants who choose to also register for evaluation MUST have completed the following requirements.
Age (as of Jan 1, 2025) 20 years
Equestrian Canada Coach Status Minimum current EC Registered Coach Status
EC Prerequisites - Competition Coach certification (may be challenged in some cases) and at least two (2) years of coaching experience producing athletes competing at:
- Dressage: Second Level or higher, with at least one (1) minimum score of 65% at an EC Gold-sanctioned competition.
- Eventing: Athletes meeting Minimum Eligibility Requirements (MER) at the national Training Level or above.
- Jumping: Athletes who are successfully completing courses in the hunter (3”) and/or jumper (1.0m) divisions at EC Silver or Gold sanctioned competitions.
- General Performance: At least 2 years coaching experience producing athletes competing at breed or provincial shows and have athlete(s) currently competing and achieving top-5 placings in a class of 6 or more competitors under at least 2 different judges at a minimum of 3 breed or provincial shows*. These results must be repeated in at least 3 different discipline classes from the following list: Western Pleasure, Showmanship, Horsemanship, Trail, Western Riding.
- Reining: At least 2 years coaching experience producing athletes competing at National Reining Horse Association (NRHA), Canadian Reining Classic (CRC) or breed shows that have achieved minimum scores of 68 under at least 2 different judges on 3 or more runs*.
- Speed Events: At least 2 years coaching experience producing athletes competing at provincial or national speed events or breed shows, or rodeos, that have achieved the following requirements for competitive experience:
- Barrel Racing: A top-10 placing in any division at provincial or national speed event shows, or a top-6 placing at rodeos or breed shows, on 3 or more runs*.
Pole Bending: A time of 26 seconds or under at provincial, national speed event or breed shows or rodeos on 3 or more runs*.
*Show records verifying scores, the sets of either placings or times will need to be submitted.

NCCP Make Ethical Decisions online evaluation - Successfully completed through CAC Locker
Understanding the Rule of Two eLearning module - Completed through CAC Locker
Access to a facility or environment for recording video - Competitive rider(s), horse(s) at required performance level and facility or environment for recording video
Recommended Training prior to cohort - Cohort candidates are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to take EC NCCP LTED and EC NCCP Plan an Equestrian Practice prior to the cohort. Both are offered online through the EC ECampus
The cohort training registration fee is $325.00 +HST. The certification evaluation must be registered for separately.
Schedule
The cohort will use Google Classroom for reference materials and document/video submission for candidates who register for evaluation. Cohort candidates must have a Gmail address to use for access to the Google Classroom.
