One of the great traditions of the Royal Horse Show returns again this year with the Road Horse Division. Standardbred trotters hit the show ring to display their brilliance and speed as they compete to become Canadian Champions.

After months of training followed by competitions at local and regional horse shows and fairs, exhibitors from across Ontario and Quebec will gather with over 30 Standardbreds to compete in a total of eight classes as part of this year’s Royal Horse Show at the 91st Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.

Back to defend their titles are 2012 Canadian Road Horse to Wagon Champion, Armbro Beau as well as 2012 Canadian Road Horse to Bike Champion Storm Trooper (S JS Stormtrooper). Both horses had successful race careers before making the transition to the show ring.  Another horse familiar to race-fans who is entered to compete at the Royal is 1999 O’Brien Award winner for three-year old trotting colt or gelding, Latest Chapter.

Friday, Nov. 1 the Ladies Road Horse to Bike with 14 entries will officially kick off the road horse division.

Saturday, Nov. 2 spectators can see a total of three classes, Road Horse to Wagon under 15.2 hands, Road Horse to Wagon, 15.2 hands.

The third class on Saturday’s schedule will be the finals of the OHHA Green Road Horse to Bike Classic featuring horses in their first or second year in the show ring. This year’s entries include trotters who have earned in excess of a $250,000 as race horses before becoming show horses.

Monday, Nov. 4 the Road Horse to bike over 15.2 hands will kick off the evening Horse Show, with the under 15.2 division taking their turn in the show ring early Tuesday morning.

Top qualifiers from the wagon and bike divisions will have the opportunity to compete for the title of Road Horse to Wagon Canadian Champion the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 5 and the Road Horse to Bike Canadian Championship on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 6.
