Hanna Bundy of Toronto, ON; Lauren Clark of Uxbridge, ON; April Simmonds of Uxbridge and Jamie Kellock of Cedar Valley, ON of Team Ontario’s CH-Y** are leading at the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships after dressage with a score of 165.1.
Currently leading the CH-Y** division is Ziegler riding his second horse of the competition, Critical Decision (Consul x Two a Day), his 18-year-old Oldenburg gelding, with a score of 46.3.
“I think Critical Decision went the best he has ever gone today,” said Ziegler. “Whenever he goes into the Rolex Stadium he always brightens up quite a bit, but he relaxed throughout the whole test and had good energy.”
In second, with 50.7, is Bundy riding D’Jion, her 12-year-old Mustang gelding.
“My dressage test was awesome,” said Bundy. “He did everything I asked him to do. I could not have asked for a better test.”
Team Ontario’s CH-J* riders Emma Green of Hockley Valley, ON; Sophie Ochocinski of Brooklin, ON; Moira de Ste. Croix-Laframboise of Kars, ON and Autumn Wells of Whitby, ON are currently sitting in eighth place following the CH-J* dressage with a score of 176.1.
United States Area IV are currently leading the CH-J* with a team score of 153.7.
Riding Blue Ben, a 13-year-old Westphalian gelding sired by Gambit Z, 16-year-old de Ste. Croix-Laframboise is sitting in third place following a lovely dressage test with a score of 49.2. Blue Ben is owned by de Ste. Croix-Laframboise and her mother Teddie Laframboise.
“He went into the ring yesterday for the ring familiarization and did not look at a thing, so I was pretty confident when I went in the ring today. He was really calm,” said Ste. Croix-Laframboise. “The first half of the cross country course looks pretty fun with lots of room to gallop.”
“Team Ontario had a fantastic day today. Our one star riders really held their composure and did a super job in the ring,” said Team Ontario coach Jessica Phoenix. “Our top place Ontario CH-J* rider, Moira de Ste. Croix-Laframboise, is in third, and she did a super test with her horse Blue Ben.”
“I just sent our two star athletes in to the dressage ring with the goal of having good, consistent, flowing tests and it worked for them. They went in the ring, stayed calm and did their job,” added Phoenix. “Now they are leading the two star division and that is very exciting.”
