Notice regarding Recent Government and Other Communications Relevant to Members of Ontario Equestrian

Tuesday March 24, 2020

To all members of Ontario Equestrian:

The following sets out recent Government and other communications which are relevant to Ontario’s Equestrian community.

On March 17, 2020, the Ontario Government enacted a Declaration of Emergency to Protect the Public to help contain the spread of COVID-19 and protect the public. As a result, the following establishments among others, are required to close immediately: all facilities providing indoor recreational programs. It is our understanding that this will remain in place until March 31, 2020. At such time, the Province will reassess.

At 8:00 p.m. on March 23, 2020, the Ontario Government issued a “List of Essential Workplaces”.

At 8:30 p.m. on March 23, 2020, the Ontario Government also issued a statement regarding “Ontario Closing At-Risk Workplaces to Protect Health and Safety”.

While Ontario Equestrian cannot determine which items in the List of Essential Workplaces or which aspects of the March 23, 2020 Government statement pertain to individual members, Ontario Equestrian can make recommendations. Our recommendations continue to be as set out in the March 20, 2020 statement issued by Equestrian Canada, Ontario Equestrian and all of the other Provincial and Territorial Sport Organizations (PTSO) under the heading “Recommendations for Equestrian Facility Operations”.

In this context, we also encourage you to join the next Equestrian Canada (EC) National Equine Disease and Welfare Surveillance Call on March 25, 2020, at 12 p.m. ET.  You are required to register prior to the webinar and submit your most pressing questions about COVID-19 here.

We empathize especially with the facility owners, athletes and coaches who are so deeply affected by this situation. Ontario Equestrian is committed to continue working alongside our partners to ensure that we are making informed decisions, in alignment with our values, while continuing to work towards the best possible outcome for all those involved in our sport and the broader community. We will continue to closely monitor all COVID-19 developments in consultation with relevant public health authorities, other governing bodies and our provincial partners to provide updates as they become available. For your convenience, we have provided the link to the Ontario Government’s official communications for Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Thank you for your co-operation and engagement as we work diligently to keep our community safe and informed.

Sincerely,

The Board and Staff of Ontario Equestrian
