Hunter/Jumper Judging Clinic with Barb Mitchell

The Ontario Equestrian Federation invites riders, coaches and prospective judges to take part in a Hunter/Jumper Judging Clinic with renowned clinician, judge and coach Barbara Mitchell on May 2-3 in Richmond Hill.

Ever wonder what the judge is looking for? Barb Mitchell, an Equine Canada Senior and USEF ‘R’ Status Hunter, Jumper and Equitation Judge will give you the inside edge. As an added bonus, joining her for the Jumper portion of the clinic will be FEI 3* Jumper Judge John Taylor.

Topics covered in the Hunter portion of the clinic include:

  • The responsibilities of a judge
  • Type, quality, style, movement and jumping style
  • Keeping a judge’s card
  • Types of classes offered
  • Equitation divisions –types of classes/routines/testing, expectations for different levels of classes, medal classes

Topics covered in the Jumper portion of the clinic will include:

  • The responsibilities of a judge
  • Marking your card
  • Tables (types of faults, time keeping, types of classes)
  • Demonstration and practice using timers
  • Course designing (reviewing course details, site, ring, walking courses etc).

The clinic format will include discussions, video judging (Hunter portion only), exam and a Q&A period. Held at the OEF office in Richmond Hill, this clinic counts towards OEF provincial official judging accreditation requirements and coaching updating hours. It is suitable for prospective judges, fair organizers, saddle clubs, equestrian teams and Hunter/Jumper competitors and coaches.
